Create your own Christmas Crafts

Pom Pom SantaIt is a lot of fun getting together to make your own Christmas cards and decorations but it does take a lot of time!

If you are looking for something to make for the Christmas season but are a little stuck for time, we have Christmas crafts that require only a few resources but can be made in no time – perfect for both you and the kids.

We have a number of characters to chose from, with easy step by step guides to help you. You can make a Pom Pom Santa or a Pom Pom Penguin, or you can choose the dangly legs characters; the Penguin, Reindeer, Santa and Snowman.

Alternatively you could try something more traditional like these lovely peg angels or the nativity scene.

You will need the following:

  • Scissors
  • Craft Glue
  • Dried Pulses (eg lentils/ optional)
  • You can make your penguin as a mantle piece decoration, or he can be a hanging decoration. Do not use dried pulses if you wish to hang him as this will make him too heavy to hang.

Using the photo as a guide:

  1. Matching the sewing holes together place the leg felt pieces in between the two felt body pieces. Sew all the way around leaving a gap at the top of his head, but do not cut the thread at this point.
  2. If you have chosen to use dried pulses, pour them into your penguin’s body until it is about two thirds full. Stuff the rest with the wadding provided. Once you have done this continue to sew until the gap is closed. Make a knot and cut excess thread.
  3. Glue the felt beak, belly, wings, scarf and boots on.
  4. Sew the two hat pieces together. Glue the felt brim to the front and the pom pom to the top.
  5. Glue the wobbly eyes and hat on.
  6. If you have chosen to make your penguin into a hanging decoration use the remaining sewing thread to make a loop and glue this to the back of his hat.
  7. Finally glue on his eyes and pom pom nose.
  8. Make sure that glue is completely dry.
